Day 31

Today’s thought is shared by Holden Palazola…

“Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me.”   (Psalm 51:10)

In a world full of sin & temptation, it is very hard to stay on the straight & narrow path. There will be times in life no matter your age that you will fall short of the glory of God. When we do fall short it is important for us to be able to recognize our shortcomings and turn our transgressions back to the Lord. Between work, school, relationships, friends, social media, & sometimes even family, it is hard to hold ourselves accountable on a daily basis. These are hurdles that we fight each & every day. No one is perfect as we all know but we can’t use that as a crutch to justify something you are struggling with. It is important that we take whatever baggage we carry and turn it over to God. When we turn to God with our struggles it is because we have realized there is a problem & we want to find a solution. Not so that we can turn around & do the same thing tomorrow.

In Psalms 51:10 it states, “Create in me a clean heart, O God, & renew a steadfast spirit within me.” Create in me a clean heart, just those words you can almost feel throughout your body. This is what we are asking for every time we ask for forgiveness. The heart is the most important organ in the body & without a heart it is physically impossible to have life. Life’s struggles weigh heavy on us every day & the amount of weight we carry on our shoulders also affects our heart, soul, & mind. “And renew a steadfast spirit within me.” The word steadfast is very diverse, synonyms include words such as loyal, dependable, true, & solid. When we ask God for this transformation we must realize it isn’t a temporary obligation. We have recognized an issue & turned it over to God in hope that he will lead us in the right direction. The forgiveness that the Lord provides is never ending, but we can’t take advantage of the beautiful grace that God shows us. Throughout life, we as humans will fall into temptation; however, it is up to us as Christians to turn these temptations over to the Lord in order to keep our hearts clean.

Dear Lord thank you for this wonderful day. Thank you for all the many blessings in which you show us each and every day. Lord I come to you today asking for you to cleanse our hearts. Please take control of our temptations and help us to walk with you Lord. Cleanse our hearts so we can see the way and once again. Help me to change myself and to turn to you when I am in need. Help me to recognize temptation so that I may be able to stand tall in times of desperation. Please continue to be with me and watch over me each and every day as I know you do. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen
