DON’T GROW WEARY IN WELL DOING!!
Introduction:
It is easy for people to become discouraged. The prophet, Elijah, felt that he was the only one left who tried to serve the Lord (I Kings 19:1-18). He was told that seven thousand in Israel had not bowed down to worship idols. Elijah had his strength renewed and he continued to serve God.
I. A CLASSIC OLD TESTAMENT EXAMPLE---JOSEPH.
A. He was disliked by his jealous brothers and sold as a slave (Gen. 37).
B. As a slave in Potipher’s house in Egypt, he rose to second in command (Gen. 39).
Potipher’s wife lied about Joseph and caused him to be put into prison (Gen. 39) Yet, Joseph did not give up or become weary in doing what was right.1.
2. Joseph’s behavior caused him to be placed in a position of authority while he was in prison and he interpreted two dreams (butler & baker), which eventually led to his release (Gen. 40).
3. Initially, the butler forgot to mention Joseph to Pharoah as he promised. Finally, when Pharoah had a dream, the butler remembered Joseph.
4. The fact that he did not become weary in well-doing led to great success for him, glory to God and His chosen ones.
II. A CLASSIC NEW TESTAMENT EXAMPLE---PAUL.
A. He wrote in Gal. 6:7-10 to not become weary in well doing.
1. His life as a Christian had not been easy. Read II Cor. 11:16-33 and Phil. 4:10-13.
2. Paul remained faithful until death (II Tim. 4:6-8)
III. WHAT ABOUT US? ARE WE EASILY DISCOURAGED?
A. Do we become discouraged when no one encourages us in our work as a Christian?
1. Do we feel left out when no one visits us or invites us to their house?
2. Do we feel the Lord has not prospered us or blessed us properly for our work and efforts in the church?
"Don’t grow weary in well-doing, for in due season we shall reap if we faint not." The Lord does not forget those good works we do while on the earth (II Cor. 5:10; Rev. 20:11-15).
