EVIDENCE OF BEING A CHRISTIAN

Acts 8:1-4

Introduction: It has been said that Jesus means nothing to us until He means everything to us. (Songs: Jesus is all the world to me & He is my everything).

A. What if we had to prove in a court of Law that we are Christians? What evidence could we present to support that claim?

1. Records of service, attendance, contributions, etc.

2. Eye witness reports.

3. Polygraph test (Although not admissible in most courts).

I. What Evidence Do We Need To Substantiate Our Claim?

A. Steadfastness—(I Cor. 15:58; Rev. 2:10; Rev. 14:13).

1. Why do we go to sleep in worship services, reading, driving, etc.?

a. Usually it is because of fatigue and/or a drifting mind.

2. We go to sleep spiritually for the same reason—We get our mind off the Lord and on something else (Matt. 6:24; Eph. 5:14-16).

B. Power of God working in our hearts (Eph. 4:21-24).

C. Gratitude for what Jesus did for us! The Lord’s Supper brings this to our minds (I Cor. 11:23-29).

1. Example of someone who saved our life at the cost of his/her own. We attend their funeral—what would be our mood and conduct?

II. Our Time And Talent Belong To The Lord.

A. We are bought with a price (I Cor. 6:19,20).

B. We are saved to serve (Matt. 20:25-28).

C. We must give account to God for our worship, giving, example as a Christian, etc.

1. Put first things first (Matt. 6:33)

2. Worship God in spirit and in truth (John 4:24).

3. Give of your time, talent and treasure to the Lord (I Cor. 16:1,2)

4. Be the proper example before others (Matt. 5:16; I Tim. 4:12)

D. There is no place for mediocrity in the Lord’s church (Rev. 3:15-20). God has always required the best man has to offer.

1. We need to be self-starters who need no cranking and neither are we cranky!

E. There is an abundance of talent in this congregation. Some of it is being used while the remainder is dormant. Each of us has a great potential for bringing others to Christ. The power is in the Word (Rom. 1:16).

1. The early church had made such an impact that they were accused of turning the world upside down (Acts. 17:1-6).

a. Church today reminds me of the Super Bowl and the little boys playing outside the stadium.

b. We can get so busy or wrapped up in ourselves that we forget about the real game of life—seeking and saving the lost.

Conclusion: Let us all resolve to live our best, teach our best, love our best, and show to the world that Christ lives within us as our hope of glory (Phil. 4:13).
