How To Lose Some Weight

(Hebrews 12:1-3)

Introduction: After the holidays, many of us desire to lose some weight. This is harder for some than others due to genes, metabolism, etc. One lady said she knew how to get rid of some unwanted weight: She would divorce her husband.

A. Some folks never have a physical weight problem.

B. On the Spiritual side of life, all of us must lose some weight to be pleasing to the Lord.

 

I. Lay Aside The Weight Of Sin.

A. Hebrews 12:1-3. Put away encumbrances and discouragements.

B. Run the race of life as a Christian (II Tim. 4:6-8).

II. Put Aside All Moral Filth And The Remains Of Wickedness.

A. James 1:21-24. Put away all of our hindrances and work hard for the Lord. We are to be different from the world (Rom. 12:1,2).

III. Put Aside All Malice, Guile (deceit), Hypocrisy, Envy, And Slander.

A. I Peter 2:1-3. Desire the Word of the Lord.

 

IV. Lay Aside The Old Self With The Sins And Lies.

A. Ephesians 4:21-31. Put off the old self and put on the new self.

1. Romans 6: 1-11. The old person dies and the new one lives.

 

V. Lay Aside Deeds Of Darkness.

A. Romans 13:11-14. Put on the armor of light and the Lord.

1. Ephesians 6:10-17 describes the Christian armor.

 

VI. Jesus Offers To Lighten Our Load.

A. Matthew 11:28-30. Jesus tells us how to lighten our load.
