IF I WERE A WOMAN!
(Proverbs 31:10-31)
Introduction: The late Ira North presented this lesson several years ago. I never saw his outline, but jotted down a few notes from which I developed this lesson.
I. A Creation Of God (Gen. 1:27; 2:21-25).
A. Not just an afterthought.
B. Her beauty, inwardly and outwardly.
C. Trustworthy (Prov. 31:10-12).
II. The Power Of A Woman.
A. Many men are where they are today because of the good influence of their mother and their wife.
1. Hannah, the mother of Samuel (I Sam. 1).2. Elizabeth, the mother of John (Luke 1).
3. Mary, the mother of Jesus (Luke 2).
4. Eve led Adam to sin (Gen. 3).
5. Jezebel, the wife of Ahab, was very wicked and a bad influence on King Ahab (I Kings 18-21).
III. If I Were A Woman.
A. I was supposed to be a girl. My mother had a name for me, etc.
B. Attitude---Co-worker and helpful. I would not be a Women’s lib or supremist.
C. If I married, I would want to be a good wife and mother.
---I would want to look the best I could (Powder and Paint; neat, modest dress, never give anyone a justified reason to lust after me (Matt. 5:16; Rom. 12:1,2).1. Appearance
2. Cleanliness---for my self and my house. You may not have the finest house, but if it is clean and the best you can make it, then be proud of it and give God the thanks for it (Ex. of the dirt floor house in Lewisburg).
3. Spiritually Minded---(Prov. 31:30; I Peter 3:1-6).
a. Article: The Best Preacher.
D. I would guard my words!
1. No profanity (Matt. 12:35-37).
2. I would not belittle or humiliate my husband publicly or privately (Prov. 31:26).
3. I would not be a gossiper. I would know things to be true before I told them. Then, I would be very cautious about repeating what I heard (Prov. 16:28; 26:20; Rom. 1:29).
E. I would want to be a Christian Mother.
1. The hand that rocks the cradle rules the world (Prov. 22:6).
2. I would want to have good habits because my child will be exposed to me more than any other family member.
3. I would want a loving attitude. Children reflect back what they receive from their parents in many cases.
IV. The woman has a wonderful opportunity to serve the Lord in our day.
A. God will bless her.
B. Her husband will praise her.
C. Her children will praise her (sooner or later) (Prov. 31:28).
V. Whether single or married, a woman can be a great force for the truth by her Godly life and a proper example.
A. If I were a woman, I would use every resource available to be my very best for the Lord and his church (Gal. 6:10).
