A Christ-centered, Bible-based, and Family-oriented church committed to God, each other, and our community.

Day 5, Thursday, October 12

Today’s thought shared by Becky Traywick…

“Be strong and courageous, do not be afraid or tremble at them, for the LORD your God is the one who goes with you. He will not fail you or forsake you.” (Deuteronomy 31:6)

If you were to open my Bible right now you would find the above scripture typed on a small, insignificant piece of paper. Nothing showy or fancy about it and scribbled on the back would be written:

Methodist University Hospital

Mom’s liver transplant

January 22, 2017

We got the call late in the evening that it was time to rush to the hospital and wait. I am not a patient person. Mom was out of surgery, everything looked good and now only time would tell if the transplant worked. Those next several days were packed with a lot of eating out, reading, and responding to messages of those asking for information on her status. She would occasionally wake complaining of pain and discomfort. January 31, 2017 will be forever etched in my memory. At 3:04 a.m. mom passed from this life with dad holding her right hand saying he would always love her and me holding her left singing her favorite church songs and telling her it was ok for her to rest now. Nine long days of ups and downs led to saying goodbye to a person who I wish I had known just a little while longer. The following weeks were even harder as I had to look at the man in my life, who never showed a weak bone in his body, slump down with tear stained eyes and make decisions he never wanted to make. I had to hold the hand of my brother who lost his mom as well. I had to have the dreaded discussion with my kids of why one weekend they saw a smiling grandmother and the next she was gone from this world. If it wasn’t God walking with me and holding me up this whole time I don’t know who it was. He led  people to me in order that I could be strong and courageous for those around me who couldn’t.

Dear Heavenly Father, I am so very thankful for your steadfast love and strength through our daily walks as well as for the more difficult trials. We are not worthy of your glorious promised paradise but we are blessed with it anyways. Be with us as we often forget who is control of our days and gently remind us of the One who goes with us.   In your Son’s name Amen
