Day 12 – Changed by Missions
Today’s Thought is shared by Kenny Harris…
“Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” (Matthew 28:19-20)
I didn’t realize back in the spring of 2005 that the Lord was about to transform my life and lead me to do something I never thought I would do. He introduced me to the Rojas family from Costa Rica. After spending two years at the Memphis School of Preaching, they had decided they wanted to go back to Costa Rica and start a new church. After meeting with them and hearing their plan, Great Oaks and several other churches decided we wanted to sponsor them and they moved back to Costa Rica that fall. Then, a year and a half later, my oldest daughter Kensey ask if she could go on a mission trip to Costa Rica to help support the Rojas family and she wanted me to go too. This is something I thought I could never do. I had supported mission work in the past, but never thought I would actually go on one. But, how do you say no to your 22 year daughter who wants you to go somewhere with her? Ha. Since then our whole family including Granny has gone and been able to enjoy the experience. We thought we were going there to help them and it didn’t take long for us to realize they were the ones that were helping us even more. The first worship service we had an overflow crowd. I ended up sitting up front and facing my Costa Rican brothers and sisters. I lost it when they started singing with all their heart and with smiles on their faces. They were truly worshiping their heavenly father and enjoying it. I was hooked. I would encourage anyone that has an opportunity to go on a mission trip, to go, as it is a life changing experience.
Dear Lord, Thank you for transforming my life & helping me get out of my comfort zone. You are an amazing God. Please continue to work through me in spreading your love & good news & I look forward to all the great things you have planned for me. In Jesus name, Amen. Kenny Harris
