Day 30 – Thursday, November 1, 2018

Today’s thought is shared by Stephen Marvin…

Today’s Passage to Read: Colossians 3:1-17

Transformation is a process. We live in a “I want it now,” “instant gratification” world. But transformation frequently takes time. Don’t be discouraged. Our God is with us and he will help us.

For those who are not yet Christians, we should pray that their hearts will be touched, that they will hear and understand the word (and you may be a part of this process), and a transformation will take place as they repent, confess Jesus as the Son of God, and are buried with Him through baptism. Sometimes this transformational process takes time. We need to be prayerfully patient and not become frustrated or weary.

Each of us, as Christians, should also continue to grow in our faith and live lives of continual transformation. Some transformation may occur quickly. But in many instances, transformation is often a step by step process. Again, we may desire a quick fix, but sometimes that may not be possible.

Take small steps. Take small steps that are personal to you: Stop using unwholesome language, or increase your prayer life, or commit to reading your Bible each day, or be a better Christian example, or be increasingly encouraging, or stop lying, or pray with your kids each night. You know what you need to do. Eventually, those small steps will turn into a lengthy journey. And you will not be the same person you were at the time you took that first courageous step.

Our Holy and Gracious God,

Please help us to take the steps we need to take in our lives. Help us to be patient as you help transform us into the people you want us to be. Thank you for our Savior, Jesus, and for the hope we have of a life in eternity with you.               In Jesus’ name, amen.
