Today’s thought is shared by Evelyn Williams…
“Call upon me in the day of trouble; I will deliver you, and you shall glorify Me.” (Psalm 50:15)
They say the older we get, the more difficult it is to bounce back from illnesses and surgeries. However, I must be married to a bionic 73 year old! From that fateful week at church camp when sores formed on the toes of both feet to 5 amputations and prosthetics, Donald has not ceased to amaze me! He has endured 13 months of doctor visits, several surgeries and arteriograms with stent placements, rehab and nursing home stays, dialysis 3 days weekly, countless therapies, wound care treatment, hyperbaric treatment, and a couple of tumbles from the wheelchair. Through it all, he has had determination to reach his goal to walk again, even though it’s not over yet.
However, the truly amazing thing that I have witnessed is how God has transformed Donald into a stronger Christian. I believe God does not cause the pains and heartaches of this world, but He can use them to help us draw closer to Him. I have seen Donald’s faith develop throughout his struggles and bring him to a closer relationship with our Father. He prays more, reads his Bible more, and insists on attending worship services. He has had discouraging moments, but after talking together, going to worship and receiving encouragement from our church family, and praying to God, he’s back to working on his goal to walk again.
I know God was with Donald through all he had to endure because I saw too many “miracles” happen. Bionic or not, his struggles and God have transformed him into a stronger and more faithful Christian. I thank God for His promise to always be there for His children.
Our Dearest Father, we thank you that you love us so much that you will walk with us through our darkest hours and our hearts can be changed due to our struggles. Thank you for being there for your children. In Jesus Name, Amen
