It is so very easy to become a fraction of a Christian, but is that what we are commanded to do? Can you be a Christian a quarter of the time? Are you giving half the effort God deserves? Are you only coming to services half the time? Are you attending only a third of the Bible classes offered? Are you attending any of the additional ministries created to support personal, local, and worldwide spiritual growth?
God had never taken a fraction as an acceptable sacrifice for him. Think about Cain and Abel. Cain did not give his best, where Abel gave all that was best for God. Cain was punished. Jesus in Matthew 19:21 told the man who knew what he was supposed to do to sell everything he had to inherit the kingdom of heaven, not just a fraction. Also, in Luke 9:23 it says, “And he said to all, “If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me.” Denying yourself means giving it all up. We cannot be just a fraction of a Christian. You have to give your whole self to God.
Now, does this mean that we will not be able to have things. NO! Matthew 6:33 says, “But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.” The “these things” are the things you need. Our true treasure is in heaven as long as we can ensure we are not only fractionally giving a portion of our selves to be Christians while here on Earth. Put in your whole self as a Christian, not just a fraction. God has made you whole, are you giving the same?
