God Does Not Forget

In the movie, “A Christmas Story, little Ralphie’s father asked, “Did you get everything you wanted?” Little Ralphie smiled slightly and nodded “yes” even though he was disappointed. He did not find the one thing that he so desperately wanted, a “Red-Rider” BB gun. Then to Ralphie’s delight, his father revealed the hidden “Red Rider” BB gun. I grew up in a family of seven children, a hardworking father, and a stay-at-home mother. Everyone did their assigned chores without expecting any special recognition or reward. However, at Christmas, it was different. My father would max-out his tab with the local merchant to ensure that his children would have their heart’s desire. One Christmas morning, after all the children had opened their gifts, our father asked the three oldest siblings, “Did you get everything you wanted?” And like Ralphie, we hid our disappointment. We replied “yes” even though the things we had been hoping for were not there. But to our joyful discovery, our father did not forget. Our eyes had not yet seen what was waiting out of sight. The bicycle, my brother wanted, and the record-player that my sister and I had so desperately wanted. God, Our Father, is faithful and He does not forget! We must not become weary in well-doing. We are blessed when we are a blessing to others. His one special blessing is waiting out of sight– eternal life.

Our Father, we are so grateful that you are a God who does not forget. Help us to remember that when we are a blessing to others; we are blessed also. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Dios no olvida
