Generational Bible Teachers – Terri Arnett
I attended a congregation with four generations of my family at one time. My first memory of going to Bible Class was with my grandmother. My mom didn’t attend regularly at that time and every Wednesday night my grandparents would pick me up for Bible Study. Grandma was my Bible teacher. She would teach the story with her big black leather Bible in her lap and class at her feet. I loved hearing her tell the story. After my dad became a Christian, mom started teaching first grade Bible class. When she taught the Wise Men lesson, she would use our blue and white vase from the bathroom as the myrrh. My sister’s dress became Joseph’s coat of many colors. She spent hours preparing her lesson and coming up with visuals. She taught all three of her children, five grandchildren, and her nieces and nephew. She later began working with all the primary teachers providing visual aids and writing curriculum. Following her stroke, I was teaching a first-grade Bible class and she started coming into class with me. She had slurred speech and was in a wheelchair. She could sing “Read Your Bible” perfectly and could recite the books of the Bible without a hiccup. God allowed her to teach me incredible things during this time. No matter how old you are, God is still in your heart even when the outward self is decaying.
Dear God, thank you for allowing me to be the product of Christian Bible teachers. Let me use what they taught me to your glory and teach the next generations. In Jesus Name Amen.

Asistí a una congregación con cuatro generaciones de mi familia a la vez. Mi primer recuerdo de ir a la clase de Biblia fue con mi abuela. Mi madre no asistía regularmente en ese momento y todos los miércoles por la noche mis abuelos me recogían para el Estudio Bíblico. La abuela era mi maestra de la Biblia. Ella enseñaba la historia con su gran Biblia de cuero negro en su regazo y clase a sus pies. Me encantó escucharla contar la historia. Después de que mi papá se convirtió en cristiano, mamá comenzó a enseñar clases de Biblia de primer grado. Cuando enseñaba la lección de los Reyes Magos, utilaba nuestro jarrón azul y blanco del baño como mirra. El vestido de mi hermana se convirtió en el abrigo de José de muchos colores. Pasó horas preparando su lección y elaborando imágenes. Enseñó a sus tres hijos, cinco nietos y a sus sobrinas y sobrinos. Más tarde comenzó a trabajar con todos los maestros de primaria proporcionando ayudas visuales y escribiendo el plan de estudios. Después de su accidente cerebrovascular, estaba enseñando una clase de Biblia de primer grado y ella comenzó a venir a clase conmigo. Tenía dificultad para hablar y estaba en una silla de ruedas. Ella podía cantar “Lee tu Biblia” perfectamente y podía recitar los libros de la Biblia sin un contratiempo. Dios le permitió enseñarme cosas increíbles durante este tiempo. No importa la edad que tengas, Dios todavía está en tu corazón incluso cuando el yo externo está decayendo.
Querido Dios, gracias por permitirme ser el producto de los maestros cristianos de la Biblia. Permítanme usar lo que me enseñaron para su gloria y enseñar a las próximas generaciones. En el nombre de Jesús Amén.
