FAITH WHILE WE WAIT
Nobody likes waiting. Our lives are filled with conveniences that reduce or eliminate wait time: microwaves, high-speed internet, and Amazon Prime, to name a few.
I confess that there is one context when I enjoy waiting, however. You know those few minutes at the dentist’s office when the laughing gas is seeping into your body? When the dentist and his assistant are letting you recline in the chair while waiting for you to be completely relaxed? Yeah—those are my minutes. That’s when I love to wait.
Waiting is painless—even peaceful—before they start drilling and filling. Recently, I revisited Psalm 27:14 and realized, with a bit of embarrassment, that I don’t wait this comfortably in my prayer life. According to this verse, though, I think I’m supposed to. The verse implies that God is doing good things while I am waiting. I think the writer may be speaking like the excited mom who tenderly urges her child to “wait a little longer” for the much-wanted toy, knowing full well that it’s already wrapped and under the Christmas tree. It’s like God is saying, with a twinkle in His eye, “Just a little longer! You’ve got this! Wait until you see what’s next—you’ll be so excited!”
And the wonderful thing is that what’s next is not a cavity filling or a root canal: it is the good and perfect gift God has in store as He answer our prayers.
Dear Lord, as we wait, please strengthen our hearts. Help us to relax and even enjoy the waiting. Increase our faith in the good work You do while we wait. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

FE MIENTRAS ESPERAMOS
A nadie le gusta esperar. Nuestras vidas están llenas de comodidades que reducen o eliminan el tiempo de espera: microondas, Internet de alta velocidad y Amazon Prime, por nombrar algunas.
Sin embargo, confieso que hay un contexto en el que disfruto esperando. ¿Recuerda esos pocos minutos en el consultorio del dentista en los que el gas de la risa se filtra en su cuerpo? ¿Cuando el dentista y su asistente te dejan recostarte en el sillón esperando que estés completamente relajado? Sí, esos son mis minutos. Ahí es cuando me encanta esperar.
La espera es indolora, incluso pacífica, antes de que comiencen a perforar y llenar. Recientemente, revisé el Salmo 27:14 y me di cuenta, con un poco de vergüenza, de que no espero esto cómodamente en mi vida de oración. Sin embargo, según este versículo, creo que se supone que debo hacerlo. El versículo implica que Dios está haciendo cosas buenas mientras espero. Creo que el escritor puede estar hablando como la madre emocionada que tiernamente insta a su hijo a “esperar un poco más” por el juguete tan deseado, sabiendo muy bien que ya está envuelto y debajo del árbol de Navidad. Es como si Dios estuviera diciendo, con un brillo en Sus ojos: “¡Sólo un poco más! ¡Tienes esto! Espera hasta que veas lo que sigue: ¡estarás muy emocionado!
Y lo maravilloso es que lo que sigue no es un empaste de caries ni un tratamiento de conducto: es el regalo bueno y perfecto que Dios tiene reservado al responder nuestras oraciones.
Querido Señor, mientras esperamos, por favor fortalece nuestros corazones. Ayúdanos a relajarnos e incluso disfrutar de la espera. Aumenta nuestra fe en el buen trabajo que haces mientras esperamos. En el nombre de Jesús, Amén.
