Brenda Amon

Brenda Amon has worked in the Great Oaks Office since May 2003…

I was born in Dade City, Florida and am a native Floridian who was transplanted to Tennessee to be near my oldest daughter. I have three daughters, Wendy & Brian Harrah living in Mammoth Spring, AR, Shelby Vermeulen living in Palatka, FL and Cassie Amon who lives in Cordova, TN. I was also blessed to have four grandchildren by my oldest daughter – B.J., Logan, Jacob, and DeAnna Harrah and one great granddaughter, Emma Kate by B.J. & Katie Harrah.

My work career began in high school working for the state of Florida overseeing the main gate of Ravine Gardens State Park. I got married at 19 and dropped out of college Twenty years later, I decided to return to St. Johns River State College where I earned a degree in Business/Mid-Management while working full time at Georgia-Pacific Corp. After working for 25 years for the company, I decided to retire and at that time, I was the Traffic Manager responsible for handling 100+ daily shipments by truck, rail, air & barge. As anyone who has ever worked in transportation knows, it was an incredibly stressful job. “My” long-term goal was to move to Tennessee and homeschool my youngest daughter who had just graduated from kindergarten and spoil my grandchildren who lived next door.

But God had other plans. We first found our Great Oaks family the week before VBS of 1999 and it wasn’t long until we decided this was home. When the secretary of Great Oaks resigned in May of 2003, I was approached numerous times by the elders and I reluctantly accepted the position of secretary for the summer to give the elders time to fill the position. I say reluctantly because at that time, I felt I was unqualified, but they had faith that I could do it and that was all the motivation I needed. At the time I was homeschooling Cassie and the elders were kind enough to allow me to homeschool continue so the church library became her school room. After 12 years of homeschooling, she graduated from Lipscomb University and now works at Memphis Lung. My oldest daughter and her family have since moved to Arkansas but Great Oaks is my home. My favorite and only hobby is Great Oaks. I love my family here and truly enjoy each day that God gives me to help in any way that I can.
