A Christ-centered, Bible-based, and Family-oriented church committed to God, each other, and our community.

Matthew Higginbotham

Matthew Higginbotham will be joining Great Oaks in December 2018 to begin serving as our Youth Minister!  He will be working alongside Aarek as Aarek transitions into a different ministry role.

Matthew and his wife Claire were married on July 28, 2018, and they will both graduate from Freed-Hardeman University in December 2018 – Matthew with a degree in Bible and Claire with a degree in Biology.  They both grew up in Karns, TN (near Knoxville), at the Karns Church of Christ, where Matthew’s father is the preacher and Claire’s father is one of the elders.

Even though he hasn’t graduated yet, Matthew comes to us with some great ministry experience.  He has been serving as the youth minister at the Antioch church of Christ in Ramer, TN.  He also worked in intern youth ministry roles for both the Charlotte Avenue congregation in SC and the Tompkinsville congregation in KY. He served intern ministries as the pulpit minister at the New Hope congregation in Trenton, TN and as the song leader at the Dyers Chapel congregation in Ragan, TN.

When they have spare time, they both enjoy cooking, hiking, reading, and sometimes just doing nothing. Claire likes to bake and knit, and Matthew enjoys golf, even though he’s new at it.  Claire hopes to attend UT-Memphis’ PA program, where she’ll be applying next April.

As they transition here to Great Oaks, they plan to be with us about every other weekend this fall in order to get to know our youth, their families, and our members as well as participate in as much as they can until they move here permanently in January.

We are excited to have this faithful, talented couple coming to be part of our ministry team!
