Matthew Higginbotham came to Great Oaks to serve as our full-time Youth Minister in December 2018.
Matthew and his wife Claire were married on July 28, 2018, and they graduated from Freed-Hardeman University in December 2018 – Matthew with a degree in Bible and Claire with a degree in Biology. They both grew up in Karns, TN (near Knoxville), worshiping with the Karns Church of Christ, where Matthew’s father is the preacher and Claire’s father is one of the elders.
During his time at Freed-Hardeman, Matthew worked in ministry with several congregations. He served as the youth minister at the Antioch church of Christ in Ramer, TN. He worked in intern youth ministry roles for both the Charlotte Avenue congregation in SC and the Tompkinsville congregation in KY. He also served as an intern pulpit minister at the New Hope congregation in Trenton, TN and as the song leader at the Dyers Chapel congregation in Ragan, TN.
When Matthew and Claire have spare time, they both enjoy cooking, hiking, reading, and sometimes just doing nothing. Claire likes to bake and knit, and Matthew enjoys golf, even though he’s new at it. Matthew also has a blog: https://preachinghistory.org/.
We are excited to have this faithful, talented couple as part of our ministry team!
